BREAKING: President Buhari Appoints New Chief Of Army Staff
President Muhammadu Buhari and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday by the military spokesperson, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu.
His appointment comes days after the demise of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash along with 10 other senior military officers.
Prior to his appointment, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter Terrorism, Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East, code named Operation HADIN KAI.
His predecessor, Attahiru, who died in the crash, was appointed in January.
