Buhari vows to eliminate Boko Haram terrorists

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured that Nigeria will join forces with other countries to eliminate Boko Haram and other terrorist attacks in West Africa.

He also reiterated commitment to the rescue process for the abducted Chibok girls, pledging the federal government will not spare any effort to bring them back home.

He called on West African countries to strengthen the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to rid the region of the last vestiges of the Boko Haram sect.

Buhari spoke in Abuja at the ongoing 2nd Regional Security Summit, (RSS) with the theme: consolidating collective efforts for regional peace and development.

The President said Boko Haram has resorted to hit- and- run tactics, which he said will not last.

According to him: “I assure you all that Nigeria will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other countries in the fight to combat and eliminate terrorism in all forms in West Africa.

“I would want to seize this opportunity to inform you that the African Union Commission (AUC) and the LCBC/MNJTF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Support Implementation Agreement (SIA).

“With this, the African Union will coordinate the collation of all international assistance towards toward the prosecution of the fight against terrorism and extremism in our region.”

The President also stated the European Union has promised to support the fight against Boko Haram with €50 million to the Multinational Joint Task Force (JTF) under the EU-AU partnership.
