Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Ochei, Resigns
The Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Engineer Victor Ochie has resigned as speaker of the House. He has been replaced him with Mr. Peter Owusanyan as the Speaker of the Assembly.
Ochie’s resignation was known at a sitting presided over by the deputy speaker, Mr Basil Ganana where he read the resignation letter before the House and all 29 members accepted it.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Johnson Ejiro, nominated the new speaker, Mr. Peter Owusanyan and was seconded by another member of the house Mr. Sam Obi.
The former speaker, an indigene of Onicha Olona in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, is a three-term assemblyman who represents Aniocha North Constituency. He was first elected into the State House of Assembly in 2003 and became the Deputy Minority Leader of Delta State House of Assembly and has been re-elected two times afterwards.
No reason has been cited for his resignation but there have been unconfirmed reports that he is interested in the governorship election of Delta State in 2015.
