Eid el-Fitr: Erelu Aisha Babangida to Celebrate with the Needy
For many people kindness is a choice, but for Erelu Aisha Babangida it is an habit. The chairperson of the Better Life for African Women programme understands that the true measure of joy is having someone to share it with. Hence she regularly goes out of her way to give to the needy and less privileged in the community.
The upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations to mark the end of Ramadan will not be any different for Aisha. The daughter and spiritual heiress of former first lady Maryam Babangida is already putting machinery in place to mark the occasion with acts of charity towards the less fortunate members of society.
Checks by The Lagos Times revealed that the contractors that would supply the gifts of food, clothes and sundry items to be distributed have been put on notice to make haste so everything proceeds without a hitch. If everything goes on as planned the less privileged will be having the time of their lives come Eid-el-Fitr, thanks to the benevolence of Aisha Babangida.
This gesture is her way of helping the poorer segment of society to get in on the Eid celebrations at little or no financial cost. Those lucky enough to benefit from her generosity will no doubt be grinning from ear to ear with happiness. As for Aisha, the more people she impacts the happier she is. Hence she never stops sowing her little seeds of kindness in the lives of the masses, especially the women.
This year’s edition of the annual holiday marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan is expected to kick off on the evening of Thursday June 14 and last till the evening of Saturday June 16. Amidst the mass slaughter of rams and lavish parties that is sure to follow, Aisha’s humane gesture is a reminder to fellow Muslims that helping the less fortunate members of society remains the true essence of the festival.
