Ekiti on the way to Promise Land, says Fayemi
Kayode Fayemi, winner of Saturday governorship election in Ekiti state, says God has delivered the people of Ekiti from bondage.
The election was closely contested between Fayemi and Kolapo Olusola, incumbent deputy governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayemi had polled 197, 459 votes, defeating Olusola who had 178, 121 votes.
Addressing party supporters at the APC secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Fayemi said the victory is not for the party alone but for all the people in the state who have been “subjected to hardship under the current PDP led administration.”
“The hardship is almost over,” Fayemi told the cheering crowd.
“God who doesn’t want us to suffer anymore helped us to victory, because if the other party had won, things would get more difficult.
“God has saved us and delivered us from bondage. He has restored peace back to our land.”
He promised to be the governor of all even though his party owns this victory.
“We will all benefit from this government because we’ve all suffered a lot. It’s time for us to benefit from government programs and policies.”
Fayemi who was governor between 2010 and 2014 said he has returned to continue with those things he did while he governed the state.
“We are back to give you good governance in double fold.”
He said he and his team will not wait till October when he will assume office before setting out the APC government agenda he has for the people.
He accused Ayodele Fayose, the incumbent governor, of trying to put the state into crisis when he called in on a live radio show to announce that the candidate of the PDP had won, and he urged him to accept defeat.
“Let them also act the way we did in 2014 when we were defeated. Let them accept that only one party would always win in an election,” he said.
“In 2014, we accepted defeat. When the people in the opposition accept defeat, there will be peace in the land, and the state will develop.”
Fayemi promised to clear the backlog of salaries owed workers by the PDP led government as soon as he takes over.
