Five COVID-19 Patients Discharged In Edo, 3 In Kaduna
Three COVID-19 patients recover in Kaduna
Edo State government on Friday announced that five COVID-19 patients have been discharged in the state.
The state governor, Godwin Obaseki, made the announcement on Twitter.
He said the patients were discharged after two tests of the disease conducted on them returned negative.
He added that more measures will be rolled out to contain the disease.
“I am pleased to announce that 5 of the confirmed cases in #EdoState have now tested negative twice for #Covid-19. They have thus been discharged,” he said.
“This bolsters our resolve to defeat this common enemy, as we roll out more measures to check the spread of #Covid-19.”
The state has 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has recorded one death.
In the same vein, the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, also disclosed that the state has opened a new ultra-modern 30-bed isolation facility at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City.
Shaibu, who is chairman of the committee on COVID-19 response team, said the isolation centre is equipped with 15 ventilators, oxygen concentrators, dialysis and mobile x-ray machines, among other equipment to manage cases of COVID-19 in the state.
According to him, the new facility was constructed in 12 days.
“This is an additional facility built in 12 days, to ensure Edo people get the best treatment if they contract COVID-19. This is not a make-shift hospital but a permanent hospital built for Edo people,” he said.
“The world-class facilities here will sure assist the patients in getting well fast. There are internet facilities that will enable the sick keep themselves abreast of the happenings around the world as they are connected to the world through cable television channels.”
In a related development, three patients who were being treated for COVID-19 in Kaduna state have been discharged .
Amina Mohammed-Baloni, commissioner for health in the state, disclosed this in a statement on Friday evening.
“The three patients are among the six persons that have tested positive for Covid-19 in the state. They have each tested negative for two consecutive tests, and have now been discharged,” she said in a statement.
“This brings to four the number of persons Kaduna State has discharged this week. There are now only two cases of Covid-19 that are yet to be discharged and we look forward to being able to do soon.
“I wish to acknowledge the sterling efforts of the medical team, surveillance teams, members of the Emergency Operations Committee and other stakeholders involved in the efforts of the Ministry of Health to manage and contain Covid-19.”
She assured residents that the state is safe, highlighting the importance of observing preventive measures over treating Covid-19.
“Citizens are advised to wash their hands regularly with soap and water and scrupulously observe social distancing,” she said.
“They should also avoid large gatherings and stay at home, except it is absolutely necessary to go out. Wherever they are, they should also practise respiratory hygiene.”
“We have 15 ventilators in this centre, with 30-bed space. One ventilator is allocated to two beds.”
