Founder Of Military Barracks’ ‘Mammy Markets’ Dies At 86

The founder of Mammy Market in military barracks across the country, Maria Ochefu, is dead.
According to reports, her son, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, confirmed her death on Thursday, 20th of March, 2025.
He disclosed that she passed away in her sleep on Tuesday at the age of 86.
Ochefu stated that his mother had been receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and would have turned 87 in April.
Until her death, she was the wife of Colonel Anthony Ochefu, a former military governor of Enugu State.
During her lifetime, she was known for setting up the popular, Mammy Market, which became a common feature in military barracks nationwide.
