GWR: Kogi Man Ends 200-Hour Ironing Marathon At 142 hours Over Health Concern
A 27-year-old fashion designer, Dauda Abdulfatai, who hails from Kogi state, has halted his 200-hour ironing marathon attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest ironing marathon over medical reasons.
Abdulfatai announced the abrupt end of his marathon via X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday as he shared a video of himself addressing his supporters.
He wrote: “I wish to announce to everyone I have abruptly halted my pursuit of the 200-hour ironing marathon in the Guinness World Record quest.”
Thelagostimes gathered that Abdulfatai initiated a 200-hour ironing marathon to surpass Gareth Sander’s Guinness World Record of 100 hours. He, however, stopped after exceeding 142 hours of continuous ironing.
The decision, according to him, was influenced by medical concerns and feedback from his support team. Having surpassed 142 hours in the ironing marathon, Abdulfattah not only exceeded Gareth Sanders’ 2015 record, he also ironed 2,249 garments during this remarkable feat.
He commenced the marathon last Wednesday at Off Ajaokuta Road, Ganaja Village, Lokoja, Kogi State, Dauda after obtaining approval via mail from the Guinness World Records.
According to GWR, it took Gareth over two weeks to fully recover from the attempt at the time.
