JUST IN: Abducted Yola FMC Doctor Regains Freedom
The medical doctor with Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yola who was kidnapped at the weekend has regained his freedom.
According to The Nation, Dr Abdurrahman Muhammad Kawuyo who was abducted from his home in Lakare, Yola South Local Government Area, returned home Monday morning after his abductors received N1.45m ransom.
A family source disclosed that negotiators had been busy since Sunday morning beating down the ransom from the N10 million initially demanded by the kidnappers.
“The sum of N1,450,000 was finally raised and paid,” the source said.
The source who is privy to a recorded conversation disclosed that the ransom price was beaten down from N5 million to N1.45 million after a lot of talks with the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) said on Monday that it is okay for Dr Kawuyo to be free now, but that his freedom does not end the story.
The state chairman of the NMA, Dr. Tounde Elijah, said, “It is not enough to relax. We have to think of how to protect who would be next.
“We’re aggrieved. The rate of kidnapping is so alarming. We must tell the government that our hard earned sweat isn’t for kidnappers or any criminal.”
