Lagos dismisses two CBD officials for extortion
The Lagos State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser on Central Business Districts has dismissed two CBD enforcement officers over alleged cases of extortion and illegal arrest.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Olarenwaju Elegushi, said the dismissal of the two officers was part of measures by the government to instil discipline into employees, as well as volunteer corps, towards a better service delivery.
The special adviser, while reiterating the state government’s resolve to weed out bad eggs among workers of the agency, said the two officers, Babatunde Scale and Abioye Bakare, were caught extorting money from a traffic offender.
He said, “This agency will not tolerate any illegality by its officers and will continually discipline any officers found wanting in the discharge of their duties.
“Before now, four monitoring officers and some volunteers were dismissed for dereliction of duty. Two officers who were trying to extort money from a traffic offender illegally where recently caught and have been dismissed.”
While advising motorists, business operators and visitors to adhere to traffic, sanitation and security rules in the CBD, the Elegushi urged members of the public with complains against CBD enforcement operations, as well as activities bothering on extortion, molestation or assault by the business districts’ operatives to report such complains to his office.
He assured them that such complains would be attended to with dispatch.
