Lagos Sports boss promises improved facilities
The newly appointed Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Ayodele Agbesanwa, has promised to improve sports facilities built by the past administration led by Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Agbesanwa, who was the Director of News at the Lagos Television (LTV) before his appointment, explained that soon the commission will start building sports facilities in some local government areas of the state, adding that the Ambode government is committed to sports development.
“Recently the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode visited Alimosho Local Government for a Town Hall meeting and one of the promises he made was that very soon his government will build a befitting world class sports centre in Alimosho and other local governments that are in need of sports centres. Most of the youth who attended the meeting were happy about this good news. So this government is committed to youth and sports development in the state,” he said.
Agbesanwa further explained that henceforth the sports facilities in the state will be available for athletes, clubs and individuals who are interested in sports.
He said the era of keeping the facilities away from the public are gone and urged interested clubs, athletes and organisers to go to Teslim Balogun Stadium, Rowe Park Sports Centre, Agege Stadium, Campos Sports Centre and Onikan Stadium to make use of the facilities free of charge.
“We are not going to keep our sports facilities away from the athletes any longer. The facilities are there for athletes. The government of Ambode is interested in youth and sports and it will not augur well to keep the facilities away from these athletes,” he said.
