Lagos to Establish Energy Academy

Plans are now at advanced stages to establish an energy academy in Lagos State.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Lagos State, Engineer Taofiq Tijani made this known last weekend as he lamented the dearth of skilled labour in the energy sector, thereby undermining government efforts to meet the energy needs of the people.

Reflecting on the just concluded Ehingbeti 2014 which theme was ‘Opportunities in the Lagos Power Sector, Engineer Tijani said that the Lagos State Government has identified the provision of power as key to its growing mega city status. As such, the Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) administration through its 10 point development agenda has identified the development of an energy security strategy that supports the state’s economic development program.

The Lagos Energy Academy intends to provide comprehensive technical training for young people in the power, public lighting and energy development. The training school will be located at the LSEB premises.
