Professor Akin Oyebode, representing Ekiti State at the on-going National Conference, has proposed that Nigeria should change its name to the United States of Songhai (USS).

According to the professor of international law and jurisprudence at the University of Lagos, Nigeria has outlived its usefulness. “I propose that we change the name of Nigeria to United States of Songhai just like Nkruma changed Gold Coast to Ghana,” he said.

Oyebode also added that the country is operating a caricature federation, supporting the description of  the Nigerian system as a ‘feeding bottle’ federalism as given by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
