A 25-year-old man, Hussaini Muntari of Inwala Jangele village in the Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly impregnating his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.

According to the police, Muntari, the victim and her father, Mohammed Sani, are neighbours.

The victim’s father reported the incident at the Batagarawa Divisional Police Headquarters, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

The police said Sani got to know that Muntari had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter following the discovery on January 22, 2019, that she was three months pregnant

The police added that the victim confessed to her father that Muntari was the father of her unborn child, adding that he allegedly had sex with her at different times in his room.

Muntari was consequently charged with rape under Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court on Tuesday that investigation was still in progress.

Meanwhile, Muntari will remain in prison custody until April 30, 2019, when his case will come up for mention before Hajiya Fadila Dikko of the Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court.
