MMIA Customs generates N18.6b

The Murtala Mohammad International Airport (MMIA) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Ikeja, Lagos has generated N18, 553, 756,359 between January and May this year, its Area Comptroller, Mr Frank Nduka Allannah has said.

The amount generated, according to Allanah is N1.7 billion in excess of the target given to the command.

He said the command has consistently met its target on monthly basis.

Speaking to reporters, Allannah said the command has consistently met its target in spite of the sharp drop in importation of cargo. He said there has been a 30 per cent reduction in cargo import.

He said: ”As far as this command is concerned, we meet our target consistently every month for the past five months.

“When I resumed here in January, I brought the Comptroller-General’s message that structures must change, reform must take place and that is exactly what we have done.

“From January to May ending, we have collected a total of N 18, 553, 756,359. This is N 1.7 billion in excess of our target. I quite agree with you that there is a decline in our cargo throw put.”

He attributed the increase in revenue to the efforts of hardworking officers and men of the command .

He said: “ This is about 30 per cent. I will attribute this modest success to the efforts of my officers who have become more experts in their operations.

“They have demonstrated a very high level of discipline and decency and commitment. To that extent, we found that classifications of goods are properly done, valuation takes the correct order using agreement on customs valuation, disputes are settled speedily.”

He also thanked stakeholders for their understanding in shoring up the revenue collection of the command.

He said: “I must congratulate our stakeholders, they have become more and more compliant and therefore there is straight facilitation going on here. You will understand that the nature of activities we do here demands that goods must be delivered urgently.”
