NCoS Launches Manhunt As Seven Inmates Escape from Ilesa Correctional Centre

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has launched a manhunt after seven inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.

Thelagostimes gathered that the prisoners escaped after a torrential rainfall led to the collapse of the facility’s old perimeter wall.

NCoS spokesman, Umar Abubakar, in a statement, disclosed that authorities have since launched a manhunt to locate and return the escapees to custody.

“The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and ordered a thorough investigation into the structural integrity of the facility and the circumstances surrounding the escape,” the statement said.

The statement added that the service is working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody.

“However, the Service solicits the cooperation and support of the public in providing information that may lead to the recapture of the fleeing inmates. Anyone with information should please contact the nearest security agency or call the NCoS Response Desk lines as follows: 07087086005, 09060004598, 08075050006.

“Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or sightings that may aid in the recapture of the escapees,” the statement added.
