Africa Nations Cup hero in South Africa 2013, Sunday Mba, will not be playing in the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup starting in nine days. Mba, who scored the AFCON winning goal for Nigeria against Burkina Faso in the final, has been left out of the Super Eagles team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Mba was the last player to arrive the Super Eagles as a result of delayed travel documentation. He did not report to camp until after the friendly against Scotland last Wednesday. This would have given the coach a tenable excuse to leave him out.
Joseph Yobo’s dream of becoming the first Nigerian footballer to have 100 caps playing for the Super Eagles has been brightened with his inclusion in Stephen Keshi’s 23-man list # going to Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup, which starts on June 12.
Yobo’s dream will be only be actualised if he plays 4 games for Nigeria in his third FIFA World Cup appearance, as he bagged his 96th cap when he featured in Nigeria’s game against Scotland at Craven Cottage, London last week.
Olympic silver medalist Osaze Odemwingie also makes the list after series of protracted crises with Coach Stephen Keshi and Nigeria Football Federation. Odemwingie was left out of the victorious Super Eagles that won the last Nations Cup in South Africa last year.
Here is Nigeria’s final 23-man list:
Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide, Chigozie Agbim
