Peter Obafemi in ‘Toronto’ Certificate Scandal? Loses out bitterly
Peter Obafemi is one Nigerian whose ambition to become governor of his home state is known even to the visually impaired. His aspiration could be said to date back to the period when the Khaki guys had the mantle of national leadership. Not only has he invested his life’s savings in this ambition, he woke up everyday singing it to everyone that has listening ear that it would be his turn to occupy Ekiti State Government House in Ado-Ekiti come October 2014. But to his utmost surprise and shock, the Senator Ndoma Egba-led screening committee pronounced him unqualified to fly the PDP flag in the forthcoming June 2014 election. Obafemi was disqualified for his inability to submit to the committee a copy of his NYSC discharge certificate. The businessman-turned-politician could not produce his discharge certificate despite repeated calls on him by the screening committee to have him do so. He at various times came up with one flimsy excuse or the other. When Obafemi began to put up elusive disposition, one of the screening committee members suggested that Obefemi’s academic certificates should be thoroughly verified as a man who was not straightforward enough to turn in his NYSC certificate should not be trusted with any document such has submitted. At that point, Ndoma Egba counseled the members not to worry too much about that. He advised that the best option would be to disqualify him so he (Obafemi) would not disgrace the party if eventually presented as PDP candidate. Obafemi, whose failed aviation business was a subject of public oppobrium few years ago, is hereby called upon to borrow a leave from Dimeji Bankole who went ahead to present his NYSC discharge certificate, call-up letter and pictures taken in Orientation Camp. Ekiti is ‘The Land of Honour’ and he that must govern it must possess honour in overflowing abundance. It is time for Obafemi to clear his name of this impending ‘Toronto’ scandal. Where is your NYSC discharge certificate if you had truly obeyed the clarion call as a youth?
