Thirteen Dead, Twelve Injured In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident

Thirteen people have been confirmed dead and twelve others injured in an accident involving an unregistered Volvo truck and a commercial Mazda bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.

Thelagostimes gathered that the commercial bus, with number plate APP28YE, and the truck, with no number plate, collided around the Wichtech Company, Ogun State end of the expressway.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Ahmed Umar, who confirmed the incident, said the crash was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking.

He also confirmed that the commercial bus was over loaded with twenty-five passengers instead of eighteen passengers known with such vehicles.

He said the twenty five victims included nine men, eight women and eight minors. He also added that those who lost their lives included four men, five women, and four minors.

Umar said the injured victims were taken to the Idera Hospital, Sagamu, for treatment, while the corpses were deposited in the mortuary of the hospital.
