Tragedy As LAUTECH Final Year Students Die While Returning From Excursion
Some 500-level Accounting students of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Oyo State have lost their lives in a fatal accident while returning from an excursion to Erin-Ijesa Waterfall in Osun State.
Thelagostimes gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening around Ilobu-Okinni-Osogbo road in Osun State while they were returning from their visit to the waterfall.
The school Public Relations Officer, Mr Lekan Fadeyi who confirmed the accident to Nigerian Tribune, said lives was lost in the accident, but could not confirm the numbers as he is yet to receive more information on the incident.
“I can confirm to you that there was an accident while some students passed on but I have not gotten the details of their identities,” the school spokesperson was quoted to have said.
Also, the Students’ Union President of the institution, Anuoluwa Adeboye, while speaking on the phone with this medium, said the students organised an excursion to Erin-Ijesa Waterfall after their first semester exam as part of their activities as final year students.
Meanwhile, in a statement by the Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Osun Sector, Henry Benamaisia and signed by the Spokesperson of the Command, Agnes Ogungbemi on Thursday, the fatal accident involved a white commercial Mazda bus.
The statement reads, “The injured victims were taken to the Osun State teaching hospital, Osogbo, and Onward Hospital Okinni.
“The three (3) mobile phones recovered have been handed over to state traffic (NPF).
“Other agencies involved were the Nigeria Police, O-Ambulance personnel and Vigilante.
“The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Henry Benamaisia warns the motoring public to drive within the stipulated speed limit to avoid loss of control that could lead to loss of lives and property.”
