There, it seems, is a bond so strong it can withstand the strains placed on it by the heavy yoke of political shenaninganery. When the protégé finally comes into his own and yells out stubborn defiance against the wishes of his master, everyone is in a hurry to sound the death knell of the relationship.

However, if one particular recent happening is anything to go by, blood is not the only thing thicker than water. For a while now, there has allegedly been a huge river of discord separating APC national leader Bola TInubu from Babatunde Fashola, the man he raised up and installed as Lagos governor after himself.

Hence, when it became clear that their paths would cross at the recent wedding of a former Ondo governor Segun Osoba, not a few people expected some verbal fireworks. Some were even waiting to go to town with the news that the recalcitrant student, drunk in the wine of his little achievements, shunned and refused to acknowledge his master.

It was therefore a huge surprise when, rather than give each other the cold shoulder as many expected, Fashola and Tinubu treated each other to the kind of warm affection reserved for life-long friends. They painted an appealing picture of cordiality and camaraderie as they hugged and chatted like old lovers.

Expectedly, some sceptical elements have already gone to town with insinuations that the APC stalwart and Fashola, who is the honourable minister of works, power and housing were just putting on an act to fool the crowd.
