Mohammed Adoke, a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has written Abubakar Malami, his successor, and the International Police Organisation, demanding his release, Punch reports.
Recall that Adoke had been arrested by the Interpol in Dubai on November 11 over his alleged role in the $1.1 billion Malabu Oil scam. He was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2017, making him flee to Dubai, where he had remained until his arrest.
Adoke’s letter, signed on his behalf by Oluchi Uche in the law firm of his lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), was sent to the Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France. He claimed his arrest was based on an arrest warrant already quashed by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which earlier issued it.
In a separate letter sent by his lawyers to the AGF’s office, Adoke urged Malami to attest the judgment of the FCT High Court which set aside the earlier warrant of arrest issued against him.
Sunday PUNCH further reports that Adoke’s legal team was seeking to send copies of the judgment attested to by the AGF to the Dubai authorities.
Meanwhile, the Interpol has said it is not behind Adoke’s arrest, saying it does not make arrests and is not involved in extradition matters between countries.
The global police agency referred further enquiries on the matter to the UAE authorities.
