Globetrotters Logistics, a subsidiary of the Lagos-based freight Globetrotters foods, has made its entrance into Lagos. Bella Alewi, who is the spokesperson of this logistics company had said Globetrotters is bringing their world class standard into the Nigerian logistics game, with a fleet of ultramodern dispatch motorcycles, and riders who will undergo professional training. The company will provide a good customer service and a very quick and efficient dispatch service. Their head office in Lagos is alleged located at Omole Phase 1, Ojodu, Lagos

In recent years, with the rise of e-commerce and its adoption by young Nigerians, the logistics industry has seen an upward growth. The likes of GiGM, DHL and FedEx have struggled to carve out a healthy customer base for themselves. And now, with the arrival of Globetrotters, the competition is about to get tougher.

During the imposed nationwide lockdown spurred by the COVID-19 outbreak, a bunch of SMEs rose to prominence, joining the already growing logistics company to help Nigerians transfer things from place to place. And with this, the logistics industry saw a boom.

In late July, seeing the boom, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) introduced new charges that suggested an increase in the cost of licensing and annual renewal for logistics companies. These increments cut across all levels. Logistic companies operating in the national level were to pay 10 million naira for license and 2 million naira for annual renewal, those operating at the state level were to pay 5 million naira for license and 2 million naira for annual renewal, while those operating within small regions were to pay 2 million naira for license and 800,000 thousand naira for annual renewal.

This fee hike led to a national outrage on the internet where accusatory fingers were pointed at NIPOST saying they were trying to ruin the struggles of other logistics companies so they could monopolize the market for themselves. And this accusation became believable when it was discovered that NIPOST had recently acquired a new fleet of dispatch motorcycles. But then the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Pantami took to his Twitter handle where he called on NIPOST to pause their fee hike announcing that he did not approve the increase. And now, with the relaxation of the hike, Globetrotters is set to change the face of the logistics industry.
