Colourful posters of General Onyeabor Ihejirika, the recently retired Chief of Army Staff, appeared on major streets of Umuahia, capital of Abia State, indicating he may have joined the race to succeed the incumbent, Governor Theodore Orji, whose second term expires May, 2015.

The poster bore the umbrella logo, flag and colour of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and boldly written on it is: “Come and do more for the people of Abia State (People’s Choice).”

Ihejirika, a native of Ovim, Isikwuato Council in Abia North senatorial zone, is said to have taken interests in the governorship seat banking on the rotational arrangement. Abia North is the only district yet to produce a governor since Nigeria returned to civil rule in 1999. Abia South produced Chief Uzor Kalu who is from Igbere from 1999 to 2007 while the incumbent, Theodore Orji is from Umuahia, Abia Central.
