Odion Ighalo has admitted that it’s a difficult task playing on his own upfront in the Super Eagles team.
The former Lyn Oslo forward was played with a man off his shoulder at Watford FC and thrived with more bodies around but in Nigeria, he is more of a lone striker upfront.
“The coach has to decide that. Sometimes it is difficult playing as the lone man upfront with more defenders coming at you,” Ighalo told TheCable in a post-match conference.
“The coach decides the pattern we should play and we as players must adjust to it.”
Ighalo believed the Eagles will correct mistakes made and agreed that Croatia deserve the win against Nigeria.
“I feel the Croatians gave us a great game and deserved the three points,” he said.
“We did our best. We didn’t create a lot of chances going forward. The first goal was an own goal while the second was a penalty. The defenders didn’t understand why the spot kick was awarded.
“We need to correct the mistakes noticed in this game and move to the next game.”
That opportunity will come when Nigeria face Iceland on Friday.
