A 30-year-old man, identified as Saifullahi Salisu of Shata, Maikunkele, in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State, has reportedly committed suicide, following his inability to settle a debt of N250,000 he owed people in the area.

Some residents of Shata revealed that Salisu’s body was discovered hanging from a rope in his bedroom by his neighbours on Monday.

The deceased was described as a hard-working youth with potential. His body, according to them, had been buried.

His girlfriend, identified as Rebecca Musa, stated that the deceased had informed her, when she noticed he was disturbed, that he was owing some people in the area the sum of N250,000.

According to her: “He told me that those he owed have started demanding their money, and he couldn’t pay back. He told me that the issue was disturbing him, and he didn’t know how he was going to settle the debts. I didn’t know it would result in him killing himself over it.”
