Femi Segun is dead. The popular broadcaster and son of renowned writer, Mabel Segun, died as a result of injuries sustained in a ghastly power bike accident in Lagos this morning.
An alumnus of the famous Nigerian Public School, Igbobi College, Yaba and the University of Ife (now OAU), he served three former Heads of State as Portuguese/French interpreter and Senior Protocol Aide between 1983 and 1990, with three successive governments of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Mohammadu Buhari and General Ibrahim Babangida. Segun had said in an interview in September 2011 that he was writing a book titled My Memoirs of Those Days – Shagari-Buhari-Babangida Days to mirror major events event of that era. The book was not released when he was alive.
He contested and lost the election into the Senatorial seat of Lagos West Senatorial District in 2013 on the platform of Justice Party.
Femi Segun was Yeni Kuti’s ex-husband from whom she had her only child.
His last social appearance was at the Encomium magazine’s black and white ball where he anchored the event.
