House Of Commotion: Two Lagos Lawmakers At War

Like two determined boxers throwing fast and furious jabs in an attempt to score a knockout blow, two lawmakers and members of the ruling APC in Lagos are at each other’s throats over who gets to contest for the Ajeromi /Ifelodun constituency 1 slot on the party’s ticket during the general elections.

The current flagbearer, Honourable Olumoh Sa’adu Lukman is hellbent on holding onto the ticket despite late opposition from Honourable Famakinwa Adedayo Olufemi who has gone to court to ask that he be declared the rightful representative of the APC in the constituency.

In a suit at the federal high court in Lagos, Hon Famakinwa has dragged his colleague, along with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC, before the law asking to be restored as the house of assembly candidate for the constituency.

In the sworn affidavit deposited by his lawyer, Hon Famakinwa claims that he won the APC primaries squarely and fairly. Moreover, he alleges that Hon Olumoh had in a latter dated November 1, 2018 and addressed to the party’s headquarters withdrawn his own candidacy from the contest.

He is therefore praying the court to compel the APC to replace Hon Olumoh with himself as the candidate of the state house of assembly elections and also to bar Hon Olumoh from parading himself as the candidate of APC for Ajeromi/Ifelodun Constituency 1.

The court has however adjourned ruling till March 20, a full eleven days after the state house of assembly elections is slated to be conducted. It is unclear how the judge’s ruling will affect the declared outcome of the election by INEC.
