It was a mixture of joy and sadness for parents of the 121 abducted Bethel Baptist School students in Kaduna as 28 of the abductees were released on Sunday.

Punch reports that immediately the news of their release filtered out, parents, relatives and friends trooped to the school premises with the hope of finding their children who have been with the kidnappers for the past two weeks.

The released children upon seeing their parents, raced towards them, warmly embracing.

However, parents whose children are yet to be released kept searching, checking among the students, as they asked questions.

According to reports, parents whose children are yet to be released burst into tears.

Punch further reports that a parent, Mr. Jonathan Dauda, who could not hold back his tears as he could not see his kidnapped daughter among them, but believed God that his daughter will be released soon said, “God cannot lie. My daughter will surely be released.”

However, it is still uncertain whether a random was paid to secure the release of the students or not.

Thelagostimes recalls that the bandits raided the school on the 5th of July 2021 and kidnapped 121 students after killing two military personnel.

Some days later, security operatives found one of the students in the bush wandering together with 2 other victims.

Similarly, 2 more students managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den when they were asked to go and fetch fuelwood by the bandits.
