The federal government on Monday announced that it now had in its custody  $311,797,866.11, part of the money siphoned by former military despot, Sani Abacha.

The funds, which are parts of the recovery assets of the dictator, were repatriated from the United States and the Bailiwick of Jersey.

The federal government disclosed the receipt of the funds in a statement from Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, special assistant on media and public relations to Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation.

Malami noted that the amount increased significantly from over $308 million mentioned in the press release issued in February 2020 to over $311 million because of the interest that accrued from February 3, 2020 to April 28, 2020 when the fund was transferred to the Central Bank of Nigeria.
