Nigeria @ 58: Senate President, House Of Reps Speaker Absent At Anniversary Parade

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara were reportedly absent at Eagle Square in Abuja where the nation’s 58th Independence anniversary parade was held.

Premium Times reports that President Muhammadu Buhari; his vice, Yemi Osinbajo; the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen; and former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, among others were present at the event.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the House of Reps speaker, Turaki Hassan said he had no idea if his boss was invited to the event or why he did not attend.

“Actually, I am out of Abuja and I don’t know what is happening there”, he said.

TheLagosTimes recalls that the senate president and speaker who are both principal officers in the country recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition party, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
