No More War! Chief Kessington Adebutu Reconciles Dapo Abiodun, Son, Ladi Adebutu

Yes, discord may tarry for a while but it oft vanishes in the blistering blaze of comradeship. Days after the Ogun State electorate spoke resoundingly in favour of Dapo Abiodun, post-election developments have continued to show that they have made a right choice in a man of noble upbringing with fear of God. Dapo Abiodun’s peaceable mien has not only endeared him to many who were on his side while the contest lasted, several of his opponents have come to the reality that Dapo has the heart and aptitude to bring all warring parties together for the common good of Ogun State.

Joining the ranks of those who have closed ranks with him is the court-prohibited governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ladi Adebutu. In a move considered by many as novel, the founder and chairman of Premier Lotto Nigeria Limited, Chief Adebutu Kessington, reconciled his son, Ladi, with the Governor-Elect yesterday afternoon. Dapo, in his characteristic magnanimity, embraced the truce and accorded Ladi a very warm cuddle to show that the hatchet has been buried.

It will be recalled that Ladi, upon his rejection by the Supreme Court, jettisoned his party, PDP’s candidate, Buruji Kashamu, and went into alliance with the incumbent Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, who was rooting for Adekunle Akinlade to succeed him. Peeved by his son’s indiscretion, Chief Kessington quickly denounced his son’s choice and pledged his support for Dapo. Dapo Abiodun, has been showing that his gentlemanly approach to the just concluded gubernatorial election is not a fluke after all.

From a campaign that was purely issue-based (which is a total departure from the mudslinging style of some of his opponents) now to a conciliatory demeanour with some of his opponents, Dapo has constantly shown that decency and meekness when well deployed are a winning strategy. This must have been responsible for the open arms with which he has been welcoming some political opponents who had mounted a stumbling barrier to his aspiration.

Buruji Kashamu did not only congratulate Dapo, he went to Dapo’s house to offer his handshake of support for him. It does not appear that Governor Amosun will be toeing this path of camaraderie anytime soon and come down from his high horse to extend an olive branch to his friend, Dapo, who has been a co-traveller in his political trajectory. He has vowed to go to court to challenge Dapo Abiodun’s victory. Now the question; Who will reconcile Amosun and Dapo?
