Controversy Over Nigerian Insurance Director Reportedly Murdered At South African Hotel

The death of insurance guru, Obianuju Ndubuisi, in a South African hotel has continued to generate reactions among Nigerians, especially on social media.

Ndubuisi, who was Deputy Director-General of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, had travelled to South Africa to attend the conference of the African Insurance Organisation but was found dead in her room at Emperor’s Palace Casino, Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg on June 13, 2019

However, an autopsy report has showed that Ndubuisi was strangled to death in South Africa.

The CCTV in her hotel room at the Emperor Palace Hotel, Johannesburg however revealed that nobody entered Ndubuisi’s room.

The autopsy was carried out by the Health Department of the Republic of South Africa.

Confirming the outcome of the autopsy through her Twitter handle, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the autopsy showed that the death was unnatural and checks on CCTV by the South African Police showed that no one entered the room.

Dabiri-Erewa tweeted: “Our Consular General (CG) in South Africa along with the deceased’s brother are on the sad incident.

“CCTV showed no one entered the room.
“Autopsy showed she died of unnatural.”

Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, said it was unfortunate that the Federal Government and its agencies like the Nigerian Diaspora Commission headed by Abike Dabiri-Erewa had failed to comment on the matter.
