Folorunso Alakija, Tiwa Savage to Headline WIE Symposium In Nigeria

The Women, Inspiration and Enterprise (WIE) Network will hold the second edition of its annual WIE Africa in Lagos, Nigeria with an array of renowned women to headline the event slated for May 3rd, WIE Co-Founder and CEO, Dee Poku announced on Monday.

The WIE symposium ventured into Africa last year, successfully launching in Cape Town, South Africa with the first edition.

“Following the immense success of the inaugural WIE Africa in Capetown, South Africa, I am delighted to welcome WIE Africa to Nigeria,” said Toyin Saraki, former First Lady of Kwara State, Nigeria, and one of the leading women who will co-host the event in Nigeria.

Saraki, Founder of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, who spoke at last year’s event made a case for the empowerment of women noting that women need to be empowered in order to enable them impact in the society.

Other co-hosts include: CEO of Ebony Life TV, Mo’ Abudu; fashion designer Folake Folarin-Coker, Founder of Tiffany Amber; CEO of Standard Chartered, Bola Adesola and television star Julie Gichuru.

Acclaimed songwriter, Tiwa Savage and Nigeria’s first female billionaire, Folorunso Alakija will headline the event.

Alakija said she was happy to be attending the WIE event this year, stressing that she was passionate about the empowerment and success of women.

The self-made founder of Famfa Oil added that she looked forward to “contributing and listening to other successful female entrepreneurs as we share experiences of what I am sure will be an informative event, motivating and inspiring the next generation.”

Proud to have been able to find a common ground for women of great calibre in the society to inspire other women, Poku said, “… our mission is to get to the core of how Africa’s talent can both drive development within the continent and have global impact”.

Since it was formed in 2010, WIE has held symposiums in London, New York and Cape Town, going about empowering the next generation of women leaders.

The symposium is expected to break new ground in Nigeria by creating a meeting point for Africa’s emerging young female leaders and its stars, in order to empower and inspire the next generation.
