In Her Father’s Shoe…Bella Disu Becomes Chairman, Abumet Nigeria Limited

January 1st, 2021, was a day of takeovers and handovers in many high-flying firms around the world. This was also true in the upper tiers of leading construction company, Abumet Nigeria Limited, as the phenomenal corporate Amazon, Belinda ‘Bella’ Ajoke Disu replaced Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as Chairman.

For Abumet, raising Bella Disu onto the Chairmanship seat is tantamount to advancing by leaps and bounds. Because the business world is gradually being overrun by the preferences and machinations of an evolving and idealistic age, a mind that straddles that quick march of progress and rattles off clever innovations like a happy talebearer.

Thus, Disu taking over after the retirement of former Alternate Director and Chairman, Tukur, is probably the smartest move of the company this year.

It is unlikely that Disu will be vacating much after this appointment, as there is quite a bit of work to do. Abumet is a subsidiary of first-class Nigerian construction company, Julius Berger. Established in 1991, Abumet, is entirely almost focused on providing aluminium and glass solutions services within the Nigerian building construction sector.

Thus, Abumet’s 30 years of top-notch service are responsible for its unbroken stream of clients in Nigeria and all over. Thus, heading a company such as this would be a challenge to any other person, but not Disu.

As in the case of the popular adage of mice spawning mice and tigers birthing tigers, the Adenuga lineage is renowned for its sterling accomplishments. Bella Disu, who is the daughter of celebrated business giant and boss of Globacom, Otunba Michael Adenuga, fits the mould.

Bella Disu holds a Bachelor of Arts (in International Relations) and a Masters of Science (in Leadership) from the University of Massachusetts and Northeastern University, respectively.

She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management of Nigeria (MNIM) and the Institute of Directors of Nigeria (MIOD), and is one of the few young Nigerian women who have been conferred with the French National Honour, Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres (“CAL”).

Disu’s abilities have earned her many seats in several executive boards: she is the Executive Vice-Chairman at Globacom, CEO at Cobblestone Properties & Estates Limited, and a Board Director at Mike Adenuga Centre, as well as at Julius Berger.

With Bella Disu, the Adenuga apple did not fall far from the tree.
