New IGP: Buhari Is Sidelining Us – Igbo Community

IGP-BUHARI3

An Igbo socio-economic community in Ibadan, Oyo State, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of one-sided appointments, which are only favouring the Northern part of Nigeria.

Members of the community, who spoke with Lagos Times, during an opinion poll, expressed dissatisfaction over the situation, describing the gesture as a deliberate sideline of the southeast by President Buhari in his appointments, especially in the security sector.

This is coming, as a result of the recent appointment of a new Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, who is a Northern Muslim from Lafia, Nasarawa State, North-central Nigeria.

Expressing his discontent, a fabric trader, Justice Ubekwe, who hails from Enugu state, said the appointment was a slap on the face of South-Easterners.

In his words, “that appointment was nothing but a slap on those of us who come from the South East.

“If the president can appoint another Northerner as IGP, after the one that left is also a Northerner, then the President is telling us Nigeria is not one but belongs to only the North. This is uncalled for,” he added.

Also speaking with Lagos Times, an Imo State-born food vendor, Miss Chiamaka Joseph, said the act of nepotism by the president was a shame.

She added that, despite the calls for the appointment of an officer from the South-East for the IG position, as a way of placating the people of the zone for their non representation in the security architecture of the country, the president did otherwise.

In his own reaction, a boutique owner, John Jasper, from Anambra State, said, ‘I still don’t know why the president has to appoint someone from the North, while he’s sidelining those who come from the East, this is basically wrong.

“If the president is not careful, this act might cost his supports from the East in the coming election, but anyways, I wish the new IGP well and charge him to stay true,” he added.

Mohammed Adamu replaced Ibrahim Idris, as the number one police officer in the country, following the latter’s recent retirement from public service.
