Presidential Debate Holds Today…Buhari, Four Other Aspirants To Participate

President Muhammadu Buhari and four other presidential candidates are expected to sell themselves to Nigerians during a presidential debate today in Abuja.

The debate is scheduled to hold from 7pm at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Buhari, who is contesting the February 16 presidential election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, is one of the five candidates invited to a debate being put together by the Nigerian Election Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria ahead of the general elections.

The Executive Secretary of NEDG, Edidi Emesiri, had in a statement listed candidates shortlisted for the debate alongside Buhari to include those of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, Oby Ezekwesili; Alliance for New Nigeria, Fela Durotoye; Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar; and Young Progressives Party, Kingsley Moghalu.

Meanwhile, the Coalition for United Political Parties had, in a statement on Thursday alleged that the President was planning to evade the debate.

The coalition said Buhari’s performance at the recently-held town hall meeting can best be described as a national calamity and an embarrassment

According to the coalition, the APC has resolved that the president will not be attending the presidential debate, so as to avoid unveiling all they have been hiding from citizens.
