Xenophobia: Nigerian Protesters Invade Shoprite Outlets, Loot Goods (VIDEO)

Valuable items worth millions of naira were looted from M$G, Affordable Boutique and other shops inside Shoprite Mall in Surulere, Lagos State, on Tuesday night by some suspected miscreants.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria had initially reported that some youths had staged a protest around Surulere Shoprite Mall, MTN and Multichoice companies.

It was meant to condemn the recent and latest attacks on some Nigerians and their properties by some South Africans in their country.

South African mobs reportedly launched attacks on foreigners, including Nigerians, and looted and burnt their places of business in suburbs of Johannesburg and surrounding areas on Sunday, September 1, 2019, and Monday, September 2.

Three people were reported to have been killed in a fire started by a mob on an abandoned building in the Jeppestown area of Johannesburg.

The attacks have angered many Nigerians who have called for a boycott of South African businesses, like Shoprite, operating in Nigeria.

TheLagostimes gathered that shoprite staff, customers as well as others in the mall were thrown into a state of panic when a group started disruptive activities, knocking items off shelves.

In the same vein, a Shoprite outlet in Akure, Ondo State, has been forced to shut down over fears of a possible attack by angry youths in the city.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a special envoy to South Africa to express his displeasure with the fresh attacks.
