“Don’t Handcuff Me In Public”, Orji Kalu Begs Prison Warders

After being sentenced to twelve years in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday, former governor of Abia, Orji Kalu reportedly begged the prison warders not to handcuff him in public.

According to Punch, Kalu, who is the Senate Chief Whip was heard asking prison warders, “Where are you taking us to?” after his sentencing.

The former governor, who appeared shaken, said, “Where are you taking us to now? Please, don’t handcuff me. I will follow you.”

Thelagostimes had earlier reported that Kalu was found guilty of 39 counts of N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years imprisonment. His accomplice, Udeogu was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. The judge also ordered the winding up of Kalu’s company.
