On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Kapital Club in Asokoro, Abuja, an essential event took place, highlighting the urgency and importance of putting Nigeria first in these challenging social conditions.

The event, organized by the National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC) and hosted by its Director-General, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, carried the theme “puttingnigeriafirst.”

Welcoming the diverse audience with warmth and gratitude for honoring the invitation, Otunba Runsewe began by stressing the need for unity. He urged everyone to rise above their differences – be it social, economic, religious, or ethnic – and unite to prioritize the nation’s interest above all else.

The essence of putting Nigeria first, he emphasized, lies in our collective efforts to address the issues facing the country and working together for a better future.

Drawing inspiration from a timeless quote by John F. Kennedy, Otunba Runsewe localized the message to Nigeria, encouraging citizens to ask themselves what they can do for their country rather than what their country can do for them. This selfless attitude, he believes, is vital for the progress and development of the nation.

In a show of national solidarity, Otunba Runsewe expressed his wish for all Nigerians to come together and support the government of the new President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, regardless of individual voting choices. This call for cooperation and backing of the elected leadership echoes the spirit of patriotism and the importance of a united Nigeria.

To emphasize the significance of unity, he recalled the great Nigerian political heroes who fought together for independence and liberation from colonial exploitation. Icons such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo, and Herbert Macaulay exemplified the power of collective action in achieving national goals.

In his passionate speech, the arts veteran called for an end to hate speech, destructive criticism, and unhealthy grandstanding along political, ethnic, and religious lines. He urged his countrymen and women to instead focus on constructive solutions that lead to economic liberation, enhanced security, eradication of corruption, and overall national growth and development.

It is worth mentioning that Otunba Olusegun Runsewe wears another significant hat in addition to his role as the Director-General of NCAC. He is also the President of the World Craft Council, a testament to his dedication to both Nigeria’s cultural heritage and the global crafts community.

As Otunba Runsewe preached the gospel of #PuttinNigeriafirst#, he reminded everyone that the responsibility to uplift the nation lies with each and every citizen. By working together and prioritizing national interests, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and pave the way for a brighter future.

The one-day program hosted by Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, in collaboration with NCAC, was a resounding call to action. It served as a powerful reminder that unity, cooperation, and a collective commitment to #PuttinNigeriafirst# are the keys to unlocking the nation’s true potential.
